GOD'S TWO MAIN PURPOSES FOR BELIEVERS
By Ron Fischer Ó 2004
The Great Commandments
Love God with all your heart and love others, especially one another. (LK 10:27; JN 13:34).
How do we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength?
We receive his love first by revelation (reading the Bible and spending time in God's presence by worshiping him with our whole being and a true heart).
We continually get filled with the Holy Spirit so that the fruit of the Spirit emanates from us.
We deny ourselves and live a sacrificial life for Christ putting Jesus and the Kingdom of God first in our lives.
How do we love others?
As believers, we desire to be a loving family, encourage on another, pray for one another's needs, heal the sick, free the oppressed, and share our resources with one another.
We desire to share the love of Christ with the world in practical ways.
How can we best fulfill the Great Commandments to love God with all our hearts and love others?
By worshipping God together, praying for one another, and sharing our resources with each other.
The Great Commission
Go into the world, share the good news of the God's Kingdom, make disciples - teach them to obey what Jesus commanded, baptize new believers, heal the sick, and release the oppressed. (MK 6:7-13; MK 16:15-18; MT 10:5-9; MT 11:1-6; MT 28:16-20; LK 4:18; LK 10:1-9,17-21).
How do we reconcile people to God and fulfill the Great Commission?
Go into the world.
Share the good news of God's Kingdom.
Baptize new believers.
Make disciples - teach believers to obey all that Jesus commanded and train them how to make more disciples (mentoring through participation).
How do we go into the world?
Have small fellowships spread all over the place.
Go to any group who are open to hear the good news of God's Kingdom (homes, schools, groups, work places).
How do we share the good news of God's Kingdom?
Share with people our testimony of God's love for us.
Share with people God's love for them.
Show kindness, compassion, and pray for their needs, heal the sick (physical healing), and free the oppressed (mental freedom and emotional healing).
Invite interested people to a small fellowship in their neighbourhood to learn and experience more of God (make disciples).
How do we make disciples?
Gather in small groups to participate together.
Praise and Worship God together.
Learn more about God (Discussion Bible Study).
Receive revelation from the Holy Spirit (Spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit).
Mature servant leaders (elders) disciple (teach and train) believers from group to group.
Pray for one another's needs, heal the sick, and free the oppressed.
Share our resources with one another.
Send out believers who are ready to fulfill the Great Commission.
What is the New Testament strategy for the gathering together and fulfilling the Great Commission?
Believers met in houses to worship God and make disciples.
Mature believers (elders) went from house to house, to teach, pray for, and impart more from the Holy Spirit using their ministry and Spiritual gifts.
Mature servant leaders (elders) helped deal with any problems in the church body.
Mature servant leaders (elders) wrote and sent letters to the church body to encourage, correct, and share revelation.
Paul rented a training hall in one city as a centre for mass training and sent them out to fulfill the Great Commission.
How did they use their money in the New Testament?
They sold everything they did not need and gave the money to the Apostles and elders who shared it with the believers in need so that no one was in need. Money was also used to support full time workers (Apostles and elders) fulfilling the Great Commission. Those workers traveled, visited, and stayed with others in the church body.
How can we best fulfill the Great Commission to reconcile people to God and use our resources most effectively?
By releasing believers to plant House Churches in every city and neighbourhood.
By having mature servant leaders (elders) visit the House Churches to train and impart more from the Holy Spirit to the body of Christ.
