GOD WANTS TO SPEAK TO YOU
By Ron Fischer © 2005
God's desire has always been to communicate with people.
In the beginning after God created the first two human beings, He spoke with them in the Garden of Eden.
After Adam and Eve sinned they were sent out of the Garden of Eden but God still continued to speak to them and the rest of people.
God spoke to Adam and Eve's children
God spoke to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
God spoke to Israel's' son Joseph through dreams
God spoke to Daniel through dreams
God used a burning bush to get Moses attention then spoke to Him out of the bush and continued to speak with him throughout his life.
God spoke to His prophets and to His chosen people through them.
God spoke to Balaam through a donkey to get His attention (NU 22:26-31; 2PE 2:15-16)
God spoke to David's heart as he wrote his Psalms and songs using the revelation he received from God by the Holy Spirit.
God speaks of His existence, glory and power through the wonders of His creation of the universe, the earth and all that is here on earth.
The Word of God who was with God from the beginning and who is God became a human being as God's only conceived son Jesus Christ. Jesus was the full expression and revelation of God the Father and spoke to thousands while he was hear on earth 2000 years ago.
When Jesus returned to heaven he sent the Holy Spirit to those who believed in and follow Him with all their heart. Jesus continues to give the Holy Spirit to those who believe in and follow Him with all of their heart. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus and His Father God will speak to anyone who will listen.
God spoke to Jesus disciples Peter, Paul, Steven, and John through visions
God desires everyone to listen to the Holy Spirit to show and tell them what He wants us to do. EVERY BELIEVER who has received the Holy Spirit has the same potential to listen to and be led by the Holy Spirit. If you don't have the Holy Spirit then seek Jesus with all of your heart and read the Gospel of John in a Bible. Follow Jesus instructions and you will receive the Holy Spirit. That is what happened to me.
Some ways that God desires to speak to us:
Giving us revelation by the Holy Spirit as we read the Bible
Giving us revelation by Spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit - discernment, knowledge, wisdom, prophecy, and tongues with interpretation of tongues
Giving us dreams or visions
Visiting us and speaking through angels
Speaking with an audible voice
Opening our eyes to see the spiritual realm
Giving us the mind of Christ and renewing our mind with His thoughts
Leading us by circumstances and signs as we ask God for guidance
Leading us by the Holy Spirit as we trust and follow what He puts in our hearts to do
Speaking through others into our lives
God is not limited in how He can and wants to speak to us. He desires EVERY BELIEVER to learn to discern what the Holy Spirit is showing and telling them, then trusting and following His lead.
What is it like to hear God speaking?
Most of the time it is a spontaneous thought from God that gives us a revelation of truth, an answer to prayer, or an idea that will bring a blessing on us or others. It will be a positive thought which will be encouraging and uplifting (even if it exposes someone's sin). It will agree with the heart, character, and truth of God that has been already revealed in the Bible.
If you sense that you are getting a thought from God then write it down and let it flow onto paper until you have a sense that it is complete - then read over it, use the Bible as a reference of what God has already revealed, and talk to God about it. You can share what God has shown you with other believers so that they can encourage and confirm that you are indeed hearing from God. Then follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
I encourage you to seek God with all your heart and allow the Holy Spirit to show and tell you what he wants you to know and do. Then follow His lead and see God do marvelous things for you and through you for His Kingdom and His Glory.
